Professional Photography Equipment Equals Professional Results
There are differences between professional photography equipment and consumer equipment. I’ve been making my living through professional photography for over 20 years. I use quite a bit of equipment. Having the right tools and knowing how to use them makes a difference.
The difference in Professional Photography equipment.
I use Canon professional photography cameras. Other brands are equally good. The competition between camera manufactures is great. The equipment keeps getting better and the prices go down. Camera equipment is still expensive. I need to purchase new items regularly. I utilize different cameras for different situations. Plus I have have back-ups equipment in case something needs to go in for repair.
I have a full complement of lens for all types of situations. On many of my editorial shoots I use my 24-105 so I can move quickly. An 80 – 200 zoom lens is great for portraits. I have several wide angel lenses and a macro for close up work. I usually shoot sports with a 400mm 2.8 lens. Love the 400mm lens, but it is heavy. I use a monopod to hold the weight, still at the end of a game I’m tired.
Professional equipment is worth the price.
Professional Equipment withstands transportation, multiple set-ups and the occasional accident. I have everything to provide a mobile studio set-up for clients who want a portrait on location. Occasionally I may have to rent a piece of equipment based on the requirements of the job. Orange County has many suppliers with an outstanding selection of rental equipment at reasonable rates.
Shooting digital requires additional equipment.
Some clients need their images IMMEDIATELY. I will bring my computer to the shoot and will burn them a CD. As everyone knows, the moment you buy your computer there is something better on the market already. On average I replace my computer (Macintosh) every 24 months. Occasionally I’ll shoot a event where they want to hand out photos at the end of the evening. I’ll bring a printer to make prints on the spot.
I am all about grabbing a sunset at the beach with my cell phone camera. When it comes to work out come the professional stuff.
