Portrait Retouching
New technology in software is always coming along. To keep up time must be taken to learn the latest advancements and see if they can help serve my clients better. I believe Photoshop will always be the standard for photography enhancement. Another one that I have embraced is a Portrait Professional a retouching program that is proving to give fantastic results.
Too much of a good thing is a bad thing
Everyone has seen Photoshop disasters. Think supermarket tabloids or fashion magazines. Making people look good with portrait retouching does not mean making them look unnatural. It is way too easy to go too far. I always tell my clients that if they want a little more or a little less I will be happy to redo their portrait retouching until they are happy.
I spend a lot of money each year updating my equipment to the latest high resolution digital cameras and the sharpest lenses. This gives me the most detail available in my photos. Unfortunately when it comes to peoples faces too much detail can be a bad thing. I use myself as a model at times to try out different lighting techniques and when I look at the raw images my general consensus is that “Damn I am getting old! Or wow I need to shave closer”, even though I had a fresh shave 20 minutes earlier.
Everyone appreciates a little retouching and I have the technology and the skill — I include retouching with all my portraits. Creating great portraits and having people loving their photos is what I do.
